10 out of 10 with Alex Seaman, co-founder Furniture.com

Home News Now contributor Mark Schumacher interviews Alex Seaman, the co-founder of the digital residential furniture aggregator and soon-to-be marketplace Furniture.com. A graduate of the MBA program at the Wharton School of Business, she talks about how she grew up in the traditional retail furniture industry, including a brief stint at retailer Rooms To Go, where her father, Jeff Seaman, is chief executive officer. Rooms To Go has been a longtime investor in the e-commerce platform, and today continues to own the domain, but operates it as a separate entity from its core retail business.

Using her experience in technology, e-commerce and startup businesses, she said, “It felt like the right fit to come in and run it. My goal is to bring this institutional knowledge, both my own and my family’s, of furniture retail and the furniture shopper, into this new way of shopping.” She also talks about the site’s evolution as more of a search engine to more of a consumer decision-making engine. “We see that the folks who shop online are kind of overwhelmed by all the choices. They are not really necessarily super brand loyal a lot of the time. They don’t have an easy way to organize or efficiently shop and we’re trying to help cut through all of that.”
