CPSC announces recall of 16,530 mattresses sold on Amazon and Walmart.com

Agency says units violate mandatory mattress flammability standards, posing a risk of serious injury or death

WASHINGTON — Mattress resource Agro Superior Group has recalled more than 16,500 mattresses sold on Amazon and Walmart.com because of a fire hazard that can cause serious injury or death.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall late last week for the Oliver & Smith 6-inch hybrid mattresses. While no incidents or injuries have been reported, the CPSC said they violate mandatory mattress flammability standards, “posing a fire hazard and risk of serious injury or death to consumers.”

The recall involves the Oliver & Smith-branded 6-inch hybrid mattresses which were sold in twin, twin-XL, full, short full, queen, short queen, king and California king sizes.

The CPSC said the top of the mattresses has white woven ticking with a wavy diamond pattern and that the sides are white with a diamond pattern, while the bottom of the units are black.

A side-seam label located on one side of the mattress says “Oliver & Smith,” “PERFECT SLEEP” and “Organic.” A side-seam label located on the other side of the mattress lists “Made for: Superior Importers Co., Trenton NJ 08638” and “Made in Colombia.” It also lists material contents, a certification statement, date of manufacture, size dimensions and filling net weight.

Imported by Agro Superior Group of Princeton, New Jersey, they were sold online at www.amazon.com by “Aylas Furniture Store” and www.walmart.com by “OLIVER & SMITH SINCE 1921” from January 2024 through July 2024 for between $90 and $180.

The CPSC has advised consumers to immediately stop using the recalled mattresses and contact Agro Superior Group to receive a free fitted cover to put over their mattress. This will bring it into compliance with federal standards for mattress flammability. The CPSC said the company also is contacting all known purchasers directly.

Consumers seeking additional information can contact Agro Superior Group toll-free at 800-453-5856 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or via email at agrorecall@gmail.com.
